The goal of drip irrigation is not to flood the field once, but to keep moisture stable around the root zone. A good plan depends on crop type, soil texture, and air temperature.
Light sandy soils lose water quickly, so shorter and more frequent irrigation works better. Heavy soils absorb water slowly, which makes pressure control especially important.
Check the filter, main pipe, emitter spacing, and pressure at least once a week. Uneven wetting causes uneven crop development and ripening.
